Empowering Communities Through Service and Education
The Mu Nu Foundation, Inc., established on February 20, 2004, is the primary funding source for numerous community uplift projects and programs. As a non-profit, tax-exempt organization with 501(c)(3) status approved by the Internal Revenue Service, the Foundation carries out the charitable activities of the Mu Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
For 50 years, the Mu Nu Chapter has been deeply engaged in Montgomery County, impacting the lives of 1.3 million residents. Guided by the Cardinal Principles of Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift, the Chapter sponsors programs that significantly improve the quality of life for county residents.
Critical Programs Supported by the Foundation:
Achievement Week: Observed annually in November, this program recognizes individuals who have made noteworthy contributions to improving the quality of life for Black Americans. It includes a High School Essay Contest offering college scholarships to winners.
Scholarship Program: Promotes academic excellence among undergraduate members and provides financial assistance to student members and non-members.
Social Action Programs: Coordinates activities to uplift communities, including voter registration, education, Assault on Illiteracy, Habitat for Humanity, mentoring, and charitable fundraising. Annual food, clothing, and toy distribution programs serve hundreds of families during the holiday season.
Talent Hunt Program: Provides exposure, encouragement, and financial assistance to talented young people in the Performing Arts.
Health Initiatives: Promotes good health practices through programs like the Charles Drew Blood Drive, AIDS/HIV Awareness, and partnerships with health organizations.
George B. Thomas Learning Academy: Founded in 1986, this tutoring and mentoring program has enhanced the academic achievement of thousands of Montgomery County children. It now operates at twelve sites, serving over 3,000 students annually in grades 1-12.
Rudolph W. Snowden Memorial Scholarship Fund (RWSMSF): Established in 1978, this fund aims to increase the number of African-American male college students and support historically Black Colleges and Universities. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000 and are available to high school graduates and prior recipients who maintain academic excellence.
